GM crops can benefit farmers

 The Gmo is benefiting many farmers. Its making their crop produce more food than any others.   A reporter released last week by the National Research Council in the US concluded that many American farmers have achieved more cost-effective weed control and reduced losses from insect pests. Another survey show that Gmo is benefeting for soybean, cotton, and crops growers. Gmo was also found that GMO helps the environment by reducing the need to put insect-resistant crops and facilitating reduced tillage on herbicide-tolerant crops.

To make a genetically organism you need three main components which are: The gene you want to transfer, target species(Corn), a vector to carry a gene into the corn cell. The gene to be transfered (trans-gene) must be cut out and isolated from the original organism. This is done by restriction enzymes, which are like molecular scissors, that recognize specific sequences in the DNA and cut it at those places. The gene is ligated and which close the plasmid end to create a DNA circle. When making a Construction DNA must contain a marker gene that would help you identify the cell that has obtain the new constructed plasmid. when you want to modify an organism  this process is called transformation.  the plasmid that do not go trough this process of transformation have a highly possibility of the plasmid letting the plasmid die allowing to insolate the contain the antibiotic.

GMO Lab

The food that me and my parthner tested was Corn Bread. We tested corn bread to see if it was a GMO food or not. This Lab will help us test the presence of GMO for well # 4, so we can not trust our results if we do not have all our other results correct. The purpose of PCR to make copies of a specific gene and tested for foreign genes.

Day 1: extracted DNA  from Corn Bread
Day2: we Set up a PCR reaction. we performed 2 PCR reaction for each test tube. Thetrr were 3 GMO consisted of non - GMO  food , Test food, and GMO positive
Day 3: We ran a gel. The purpose of running a gel is to seperate DNA  fragment by sizes . The marker is used to determine the sizes of the fragments.

The conclusion of our gel result is that we had no DNA on well # 3 which we should have seen. we should have seen plant DNA but  we did not. We can not really rely on our results.

Survey on GMOs

1) Do you know what a GMO ( geneticlly modified organism) is?
I have heard very little about GMO on the news. I think it has to do with changing food products.

2) Have you consumed any GMO food in the past week? If so, how many?
I have consume many genetic modified food this past week. Last week i consume corn chips with some melted cheese. Anothe GMO food i consumed was a canoloa to make some tea because i was feeling sick.

3) Do You think the government should required genetically modified food to be labeled?
 The majority of people i survey, thought that foods should have labels. They should have labels to inform the people of what they are consuming and if is a GMO food or not.

GMO should be used

GMO is a Genetic Modified Food or a biotech food. It is any food or organism that been Genetically Modified by a Genetic Engineered techniques. The GMOs that are available for human consumption in the U.S are transgenic plants like soybean, corn, canola, rice and cotton seed oil are out in the market. I think that GMO crops should be use for many reasons. One of the reasons that i think that they should be use is because crops can be planted in any season that is desired. Another reson why GMO crops should be use is because egineers can add any proteins needed or help the plant not expire so quickly and last longer. GMO food would help feed a big population of people and produce the right amount of food that is needed.
